  What if…. Alternative version of History Challenge

An exciting and thought provoking programme was held at St. Francis sales P U college that was organised by the Department of Humanities with the aim of encouraging critical thinking , creativity and deeper understanding of world history and contemporary History among students, instead of simply recalling facts. Participants were asked to imagine alternate possibilities in history by answering questions that began with " What if.... "

The event began with a welcome address by Pawani Rahul Patwardhan II HESPsy . Our beloved principal Rev. Fr Staney Rodrigues graced the event. The event was conducted to urge the students to explore history beyond textbooks and think about how even one small change in the past that could have reshaped the present history.

Some of the interesting topics are given to the students. The students were asked to choose a topic of their choice to speak for 4- minutes.

The topics follow as given below;
What if.... Subhas Chandra Bose returned and taken power ?
What if.... India had never been colonized by Britishers ?
What if........ Cold war turned in to world war III ?
What if .... Mahatma Gandhi had chosen violence over non-violence ?

The students impressed the audience with their delightful speeches, logical arguments and imaginative ideas of great personalities . it was really cherishing movement.

After all the presentation, the judges- appreciated the excellent level of creativity and remarked that such exercises promote a deeper understanding of the consequences of historical events.

The programme was ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Aaron Moses I HEPS.

The "What if " Alternative version of history challenge was not just a competition - it was a unique learning experience that helped everyone realise the importance of critical thinking in understanding the past and shaping the future.







  "Talk of the Dead"

The arts association of St. Francis sales PU college organised a unique and thought- provoking event titled "Talk of the Dead" on 13 th August for the students of HEPS/HEPSY. The programme aimed to creatively bring historical and cultural figures to life, allowing the audience to relieve their journeys and understand their contributions to society.

A total of 12 students participated in the event, each representing a famous personality from history and culture. Some of the notable portrayals included Meera Bai, Kalpana Chawla, Bhagat Singh , Anne Frank, Onake Obavva, Rani Padmavathi ,Bipin Chandrapal, Swami Vivekananda Vincent Vang Goh,Robert Oppenheimer and Phoolan Devi. Participants narrated the life stories of these personalities, highlighting their struggles, achievements and the values they stood for.

What made the event truly engaging was the blend of storytelling and enactment. Not only students spoke about their characters, lives but also enacted key movements with great skill, adding emotional depth and realism to their performances. Costumes, gestures and expressions were effectively used to transport the audience in to the eras of these personalities.

The session was both educational and entertaining, offering valuable insights in to the lives of inspiring figure while encouraging students to express themselves through performance art. The enthusiasm of the participants and the appreciative response from the audience made the event a resounding success.

The " Talk of the Dead" was indeed a memorable experience, leaving everyone inspired and more connected to the rich tapestry of history and human spirit.









  EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO BELUR- HALEBIDU- CHIKMAGALUR-2024

Date: 16/11/2024 and 17/11/2024

A two-day educational trip to Belur, Halebidu, and Chikmagalur was organized by the humanities department to provide students with an immersive experience in history, architecture, and nature. The excursion aimed to enhance their knowledge of Karnataka's cultural heritage while fostering camaraderie among peers and faculty.

The journey began early on 16th November, with students and faculty departing from campus via bus. Students were taken to Shravanabelagola, which is known for its gigantic Bahubali statue. The students then visited the Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu and Chennakeshava Temple in Belur, known for its intricate architecture, the temples offered a glimpse into Karnataka’s glorious past. The day ended with a campfire.

The second day commenced with a scenic drive to Chikkamagalur, a hill station renowned for its coffee plantations and serene landscapes.

The group explored the Mullayanagiri Peak, the highest point in Karnataka, which offered breath-taking views and an opportunity for some light trekking. Students also got a chance to visit Bababudangiri and a view point amidst the majestic mountains of Chikkamagalur. The trip was a resounding success, blending education and recreation in a balanced manner. It not only expanded the students' academic horizons but also allowed them to unwind in the lap of nature. Special thanks are extended to the principal, organizing committee, faculty coordinators, and student volunteers for their efforts in ensuring the smooth execution of the trip.

The trip concluded with a return journey to the college. Students shared their reflections and experiences during the ride, making the journey memorable.













  ARTS ASSOCIATION DAY-2024

Inauguration of Arts Association, Fresher's Day and Awarding Ceremony

Humanities and Social Sciences are the academic disciplines that study the various aspects of human culture and society. In view of promoting these disciplines, Inauguration of Arts Association together with Freshers’Day and Academic Excellence Award Ceremony was held at SFS College Auditorium on 28th June 2024 between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm.

As per the conduct of the programme, prayer song, welcome speech and ceremonial lighting of the lamp were carried out smoothly. The Chief Guest Mr.Ithihas Patapat ,an alumnus of SFS PU College and accomplished lawyer motivated students with an impactful address. Reverend Father Joshy Philip,the Manager of SFS Group of Institutions,Respected Principal Reverend Staney Rodriguez, The Academic Coordinator Murali Sir and the HOD Abey Sir graced the occasion.Alluring dance performances as well as humorous and educative skit by senior desalites excited the cheerful juniors.The topper of the Arts Stream Ms.Madhumitha and her parents were felicitated on this occasion.The Academic Excellence Award Ceremony continued for the distinction holders and I PU Toppers by the dignitaries.The programme was concluded by extending a thank you note to all and singing national anthem.





































  ARTS ASSOCIATION DAY-2023

The Department of Arts, with the joint efforts of its HOD, Mr. Abey Abraham and faculty conducted the Arts Association Day on 17 th October, 2023. An Elementary program was lead to celebrate and rejoice the power of Arts.

The program commenced with a prayer song to invoke the presence of the Almighty God. It was then succeeded by disclosing the annual report by the HOD.

The first year students presented a peppy Indo- Western dance performance to which the audience grooved.

The second year students portrayed a Mime performance conveying the message that “What course you take doesn’t matter. Even if you take up the stream of Arts, you can reach great heights in life.”

The gathering was later addressed by our beloved Principal Rev. Fr. Staney Rodrigues who motivated and inspired the students with his wise words.

The program came to a close with the national anthem.









  Logo designing competition

Logo designing competition was held on 13 th of October, 2023 in the college auditorium by Department of Humanities. 27 students from the department participated in the competition. The theme of the competition was to design a logo for the Arts Association. All the students actively participated in the competition with a great amount of ideas exhibited.
